Summary
A DTC brand selling whole-house water filtration systems was invisible in the places homeowners actually decide their water is a problem: the Reddit threads about hard water, chlorine taste and scale, and the searches those threads rank for.
We built credible, human-run threads in the subreddits where those homeowners compare options. One story about a scale-crusted kettle became the category's biggest conversation of the season, and an owned thread now sits at #2 on Google for a rival's branded buying term.
- 1.5M views on one thread within 3 days
- 2.1M total campaign views, 1,586 upvotes, 1,165 comments
- #2 on Google for a rival's branded high-intent term
- About 1,000 organic visitors a month from that ranking
- $0 ad spend
The Challenge
Water filtration is a research-heavy purchase. Buyers spend weeks reading before they spend four figures, and the reading happens on Reddit: r/HomeImprovement for the symptoms, r/WaterTreatment for the comparisons.
The brand had no presence in either. When homeowners asked what actually fixes hard water, or searched a competitor's name with a buying term, the conversations that answered them never mentioned the brand.
The Solution: EA's Reddit Engine
We ran real, human-run threads in the communities where the buying decision forms, built on three rules.
- Right rooms: the subreddits where homeowners actually compare systems, not generic marketing spaces
- Real hooks: genuine homeowner pain, like a kettle crusted white for two years, not product pitches
- Built to last: threads structured to rank on Google for buying searches and keep pulling readers after the spike
The Results
The kettle thread reached 1.5 million views in three days, finishing at 739 upvotes and 546 comments, and the campaign totaled 2.1 million views across threads.
The durable asset is the owned thread in r/WaterTreatment that ranks #2 on Google for a rival's branded buying term, sandwiched between the rival's own site and its Amazon listing. It still sends roughly 1,000 organic visitors a month, at zero ad spend.
Execution & Time Commitment
One kickoff call and a tone sign-off from the client. Everything else, thread research, writing, posting and nurturing, ran on our side.
